The Biewer Terrier is essentially a variation of the Yorkshire Terrier, distinguished by its prominent white coloration in addition to the black and tan (whereas the Yorkshire Terrier typically has steel blue and tan). Although the Biewer Terrier is not yet an internationally recognized breed, enthusiasts in many countries are actively working on developing it. Based on my own experience, the Biewer Terrier is incredibly loving and affectionate, with a milder temperament compared to the Yorkshire Terrier. Their main focus is simply to be with you.
Currently, there is a good description of the breed’s appearance and build, but it will receive an official FCI breed standard at a later stage. At dog shows, the dog that best matches this breed description will be the winner. You’ll often see them at shows with very long hair, but that’s not necessary if you want a Biewer as a friendly companion for your home. A groomer can style your Biewer into a cute and charming puppy look. When I walk with my oldest Biewer, J-Lo, people often think she’s a puppy, although in reality, she’s already a grandmother several times over.
Health
The Biewer is a very healthy dog. I test all my dogs for Patellar Luxation to ensure that this condition does not affect the puppies born here.
